The 12 Laws Of Maturity

Updated: Feb 26

This blog was created & inspired by the knowledge of the amazing Bahamian teacher & Minister Myles Munroe.

Maturity is defined as having reached the most advanced stage in a process. Maturity in a spiritual sense is exercising wisdom & self-discipline.

1. The first law is the Law of Responsibility. This law is about being responsible for your actions, thoughts, & decisions. Stepping into your own power. This law is taking responsibility for your own life & not expecting the world to change or accommodate to your weaknesses. The Internal Responsibility is covering your own mind, emotions, & behaviors. Also, exhibiting self-leadership & taking ownership. The External Responsibility is fulfilling obligations towards others. I have a saying "The Bible says a promise is a consolation to a fool. Stand on your word or you can't stand on anything."

2. The second law is the Law of Self-Awareness. This law involves knowing who you are, what you stand for, & where you're going. Building a relationship with self involves learning yourself & becoming a student of your own mind & emotions. This law involves also being aware of your spiritual body & in tune with your Higher-self. Not allowing your emotions to dictate your behavior. Understanding your triggers, habits, & patterns. This leads to emotional intelligence. Also, understanding how your words & actions affect others. I have a saying "It's a difference between someone's intentions & how they made you feel."

3. The third law is the Law of Delayed Gratification. This law is the ability to sacrifice short-term temptations in order to achieve long-term goals. Looking at the bigger picture of what you're creating & having the patience for the results. This law heavily involves patience, self-control, & discipline. Prioritizing what is important over what is convenient. I have a saying "Just because something is available that doesn't mean settle for it."

4. The fourth law is the Law of Perspective.

This law also includes being able to see the bigger picture. Every action will have a result so make sure you make the best choice for your highest quality life. Understanding that life has cycles of ups & downs & it's best to get the blessing in the lesson & keep it pushing. Sometimes the solution is right in front of our face but sometimes our past experiences can obscure our perspective on our current reality. Like Coach Stormy says " When you change the way you look at things suddenly things will begin to change."

5. The fifth law is the Law of Integrity. This law is about living in alignment with your values regardless of external temptations & unwarranted opinions. Honesty with yourself and others, standing on your word, being consistent with your behaviors & choices whether someone is watching or not. This law is about not taking shortcuts, being deceitful, manipulative, or dishonest. It's not about being perfect but striving for authenticity in every aspect of life.

6. The sixth law is the Law of Adaptability. This law includes being more flexible & open to learning. Not abandoning your moral principles but adjusting your method of execution. This law is about not being attached to a particular way of doing things, being more open-minded, being emotionally flexible to fit the situation & not reactive or impulsive. As Mr. Munroe said "growth requires continuous learning & evolving" & I have a saying "If it's not growing it's not living."

7. The seventh law is the Law of Purpose. This law gives life meaning & helps you to stay connected to your why. Even when you don't feel like it or your current circumstances aren't going in your favor still finding a reason to show up each & every time is rooted in your purpose. According to Mr. Munroe this requires introspection, clarity, & commitment. A clear sense of your direction in life, knowing who you are, & what you stand for & headed towards. True fulfillment comes from aligning with your higher purpose. Without purpose you become aimless & drift through life wasting precious time & potential. When aligned with your purpose setbacks become stepping stones and obstacles become opportunities.

8. The eighth law is the Law of Humility. Accepting that you do not have all the answers and there's always room to learn & grow. Gratitude & openess. Comfortable in your own skin and confident enough in yourself to uplift others. Not seeking to be the center of attention or elevating yourself above others. Open to learn from others & not having the need to always be right. Wisdom can only be acquired when you acknowledge what you didn't know. Recognizing your strengths without becoming arrogant and acknowledging your weakness without feeling diminished.

  1. The ninth law is the Law of Forgiveness. The ability to release resentment, anger, hate, & bitterness towards others. Holding on to grudges only harms yourself. I have a saying "Its emotional & not hereditary" Forgiveness does not mean condoning bad behavior while allowing others to mistreat you. It means letting go of the emotional & mental burdens that comes with holding on to past hurts. Immaturity is consumed with revenge and maturity is consumed with peace.

10. The tenth law is the Law of Patience. This law involves maintaing composure & persistence even when things dont turn out the way you would like. Willing to invest time and effort in to improvements in your life externally & internally. Keeping your head up & the right mindset while you wait for change. Remaining calm when challenges come & approach it with a clear mind and peaceful heart.

11. The eleventh law is the Law of Resilience. This is the embodiment of "warrior spirit". This involves the ability to bounce back from adversity. Developing inner strength while navigating difficulties without being broken by them. Learning how to manage the pain & adversity while mastering self. I have a saying "You overcome it it don't overcome you."

12. The twelfth & final law is the Law of Understanding. The ability to be able step outside of yourself & have universal awareness. Understanding is accepting that you aren't the only one in existence and that others have a right to feel, think, & live how they want. Understanding is critical especially in difficult situations. Dealing with others can be complicated but such is life. You get through life easier & live longer when you have understanding. Understanding leads to peace & assumptions lead to confusion. "Get wisdom but above all else get understanding" (Somewhere in the bible).

Although it's easier to read the 12 laws then it is to apply. Like my granny says "Nothing beats a failure but a try." You are your most important investment. It's ok to outgrow what you were once familiar with. How will you know how high you can soar if you don't spread your wings. Thoughts & emotions are seeds so be intentional with how you think, feel, & with your actions today because it shapes your tomorrow. Challenge yourself because challenges are just opportunities for growth.
